Carer involvement and support

Topics covered in this article:

Awards category sponsored by see me Scotland's anti-stigma campaign

We think carer involvement and support is about more than providing information to carers in relation to the person they care for - although that might be a good start.

Our shortlisted projects have shown how they have approached the broader support needs of those who care for a person with mental ill health, by providing specific services to support them and enable them to maintain their role and their own mental well being. Our panel selected these projects because they delivered

  • peer support for carers
  • support that addresses carer's own emotional and practical needs
  • improved understanding, skills and information for people who care for someone with a mental illness.
  • involvement in service development and decision making

Carseview carers support is delivered through joint working between NHS Tayside at Carseview and the Tayside Carers Support Project - a Support in Mind Scotland programme. The initiative emerged from carers concerns about difficulties they experienced in obtaining information and support for their role.
